When a single section can be replaced

Sectional doors are built from separate horizontal sections, so a damaged one can come out without touching the others. That is worth doing when the rest of the door is mechanically sound and the profile and colour are still available from the manufacturer.

It is not worth doing when three or more sections are damaged, when the door is a discontinued profile that no longer matches, or when the tracks and frame have been distorted by the same impact. We will tell you honestly which case you are in before you spend anything.

To be clear about scope: we replace failed sections in existing doors. We do not supply and install brand-new doors from scratch, so if the whole door has had it we will say so and you can go to an installer.

Matching profile, colour and gauge

Australian sectional doors come in a handful of profiles: flat, ribbed, slimline and various woodgrain embosses. The wrong profile is obvious from the kerb, so we photograph and measure the existing sections and match against the manufacturer's current range rather than guessing.

Colour is the second half of the job. Most Perth doors are Colorbond in shades like Surfmist, Monument, Woodland Grey and Paperbark. A new section in factory colour will be very close, but a door that has faced twenty summers of Perth sun has shifted slightly, so an exact match is not always possible on an older door.

We hold the swatch against your existing door before ordering, so the decision is yours and there are no surprises on fitting day. Where a close match is simply not achievable on a heavily faded door, we will tell you that up front rather than order the section and hope you do not notice.

Fitting day

The door is clamped, spring tension is released in a controlled way, and the damaged section is unbolted from its hinges, rollers and end brackets. Where hinges have torn out or a strut has bent, those are replaced at the same time rather than reused.

The new section goes on with the existing hardware wherever it is sound, the bottom seal is transferred or renewed, and the door is rebalanced. Spring tension usually needs a small adjustment, because a new section rarely weighs exactly the same as a rusted-out old one.

Allow two to three hours on the day the panel arrives. Lead time for ordering is normally a few working days depending on colour and profile, and we make the door safe and usable in the meantime so the garage is not standing open while you wait for the section.
