Centurion Garage Door Repairs Across Perth

Centurion garage door repair is bread-and-butter work for us, because Centurion doors were fitted to a huge number of Perth homes built in the last two decades. We repair the doors, the springs, the guides and the Vantage opener range, and we do not need the original installer's paperwork to do it.

What usually fails on Centurion doors

  1. 1

Vantage opener stalls near the top of travel

The last part of the lift is where a roller door is heaviest on the motor, so a weak spring or a tight guide shows up there first. The opener hits its force limit and stops or reverses just short of fully open.

    Symptom

Release the door and lift it by hand through the full travel. If it gets noticeably harder near the top, the balance is off and the opener is telling you the truth.

    The repair

We correct the balance at the spring, clear whatever is binding, then reset the travel and force so the opener is not working at its limit every cycle.

  2. 2

    Broken spring in the barrel

Centurion roller doors carry the counterbalance spring inside the barrel. Metal fatigue ends it, usually with a bang, and after that the curtain weighs what it actually weighs rather than what the opener expects.

    Symptom

Listen for the report of the break and look at whether the door still holds position by hand. Keep away from the barrel, brackets and any exposed spring; the stored energy in a wound spring is dangerous even after it has broken.

    The repair

We remove the load, fit the right spring for the door's weight and width, re-tension it and re-balance the door before the opener goes back on.

  3. 3

Curtain jammed after hitting an obstruction

A bin, a trailer drawbar or a car bumper catching the door on the way down bends slats and can knock the curtain edge out of a guide. It then jams solid part way through the next cycle.

    Symptom

Look for a bowed slat and a gap at the guide. Do not run the opener again to see if it clears; each attempt bends more of the curtain and can strip the drive gear.

    The repair

We free the curtain, straighten or replace the damaged slats, re-seat it in the guides and check the opener drive for damage caused by the jam.

  4. 4

Remote works only from close range

Fading range is usually a flat handset battery or a receiver aerial that has been coiled, cut short or tucked inside a metal housing. Nearby LED lighting and solar inverters can also swamp the receiver frequency.

    Symptom

Fit a new battery first. If range is still poor from the driveway, look at how the aerial wire hangs from the motor head. It should hang free, not be wrapped around the housing.

    The repair

We reposition or replace the aerial, swap failing handsets, and fit an external receiver where interference is the real cause.

  5. 5

    Worn barrel bearings and brackets

The barrel turns on bearings at each end. Once they dry out and wear, the roll runs off-centre, the door rumbles and the extra drag lands on the opener.

    Symptom

Open the door and listen for a deep rumble or a periodic clunk that keeps time with the roll. Check the brackets at each end for movement or elongated fixing holes.

    The repair

We replace the bearings, re-fix or replace the brackets, and set the barrel level so the curtain tracks straight.

Where we see Centurion doors most

Centurion is an Australian manufacturer and its doors went onto a great many project homes across Perth's growth corridors. In our patch that means the newer parts of Beechboro, Caversham, Dayton, Aveley and Ellenbrook, plus infill developments through Morley, Dianella and Noranda.

Doors of that age are now hitting their first real service interval. Springs fitted fifteen years ago are due, seals have gone hard, and the original opener is on its second set of remotes. None of that needs a new door.

What a Centurion service visit covers

  • Balance test with the opener released, and spring adjustment where needed
  • Guide alignment, cleaning and lubrication
  • Barrel bearing and bracket inspection
  • Opener force and limit reset, with an auto-reverse safety test
  • Remote and wall control check, including battery replacement
  • Bottom seal inspection for light and water ingress

Centurion — common questions

Do I have to use Centurion to get my Centurion door repaired?

No. We are an independent repairer and work on Centurion doors every week. The springs, bearings, guides, seals and rollers used on these doors are standard industry parts, and we carry the common sizes. Our own twelve-month warranty covers the parts we supply and the work we do.

How much does a Centurion garage door spring cost to replace?

For a standard single roller door, typically from around $280 fitted, with doubles and oversized doors costing more because they need a heavier spring. The price includes taking the load off the curtain, fitting the correct rating and re-balancing the door. We quote on the phone before coming out.

Can you repair a Vantage opener or does it have to be replaced?

Most are repairable. Drive gears, capacitors, limit settings, receivers and manual release parts are all serviceable, and a repair is usually a fraction of a replacement. We only recommend a new head when the motor or board has failed on a unit old enough that parts are no longer sensible.

How quickly can you get to a jammed Centurion door?

Same day in most cases, and often within a couple of hours if you call in the morning. A jammed door with a car trapped behind it goes to the front of the run. We are based in Morley and cover everything inside about thirty minutes' drive.
